A fine art print of calligraphic verse from the anthology The Silver World, created by the ukiyo-e master Kitagawa Utamaro.
This print originates from the kyoka (mad verse) anthology titled Gin sekai, or The Silver World, produced by the celebrated ukiyo-e master Kitagawa Utamaro. During the late eighteenth century, the publication of such illustrated poetry books became a refined pursuit among the literary circles of Edo. These works brought together poets and artists to create a harmonious union of text and image, often focusing on the seasonal transitions that defined the Japanese aesthetic sensibility.
The page displays a masterful example of kana calligraphy, executed with fluid, rhythmic brushwork.
