This woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige is the ninth entry in the series Famous Sights of the Fifty-three Stations, often referred to as the Vertical Tokaido. Published in 1855, the work depicts the coastal station of Oiso. The composition focuses on the Shigitatsu Marsh, a site associated with the poet-monk Saigyo. A small thatched hut sits in the lower left, while the middle ground features a grassy slope dotted with pine trees. Beyond the shore, the sea stretches toward a distant mountain range under a pale sky.

Hiroshige employs a vertical format to organise the space, creating a sense of depth through the layering of foreground elements and the expansive water. The colour palette relies on muted greens for the land, soft blues for the water, and a subtle gradient in the sky.
