The two upper figures display smooth, ribbon-like surfaces that twist into continuous loops, while the larger, central form is composed of a serrated, gear-like structure. This central element creates a sense of mechanical complexity, as the teeth of the form appear to interlock and weave through one another in a non-Euclidean fashion.

Escher utilised a limited, warm colour palette of ochre, brown, and black to define the volume and depth of these objects.
