As part of his series documenting the fifty-three stations, this work captures the daily life of travellers navigating the route. Hokusai focuses on the human element of the journey, showing a porter carrying goods on a shoulder pole, while other figures pause near a stone marker. The composition balances these figures against a simplified background of hills and stylised clouds, a hallmark of Hokusai's approach to travel imagery.

The print demonstrates the technical precision of the ukiyo-e tradition. The lines are clean and deliberate, defining the forms of the figures and the surrounding terrain without unnecessary clutter. The colour palette remains restrained, relying on soft washes of ochre, green, and muted red to provide visual interest while maintaining the focus on the narrative.
