This woodblock print by Katsushika Hokusai, titled Evening Glow at Jungai, belongs to the series Eight Views of the Ryukyu Islands. Produced during the artist's later career, the work demonstrates his mastery of composition and colour application within the ukiyo-e tradition. The scene depicts a rocky promontory topped with structures, overlooking a calm body of water where small boats navigate the shoreline. Hokusai employs a distinct perspective, placing the viewer at a distance to capture the scale of the craggy cliff face and the surrounding vegetation.
The colour palette relies on a balanced use of Prussian blue, which was becoming more accessible to Japanese printmakers at the time, alongside soft greens and earthy tones.
