This print reproduces a page from an early Islamic manuscript, dating to the Abbasid period. The script is Kufic, a style characterised by its angular, deliberate forms and horizontal emphasis. This specific variety of Kufic is often associated with early Qur'anic codices produced on parchment. The text is written in a dark, iron-gall ink, providing a stark contrast against the aged, warm tone of the vellum surface.
Visual interest is provided by the inclusion of diacritical marks, rendered in small, circular red dots. These marks assist the reader with pronunciation and vowel sounds. A circular gold medallion, or rosette, serves as a verse marker, breaking the rhythm of the lines and adding a touch of luxury to the functional layout.
