Wang Mian, a scholar-painter of the Yuan Dynasty, is widely recognised for his mastery of the plum blossom motif. This work, executed in ink on silk, demonstrates the artist's ability to balance technical precision with atmospheric suggestion. The composition features a gnarled, twisting prunus branch that dominates the vertical space, its form rendered with varying ink tones to suggest age and resilience. The blossoms are depicted with delicate, light strokes, contrasting against the darker, more robust lines of the trunk and branches.

The inclusion of the moon, a faint circular form in the upper left, provides a sense of nocturnal stillness. This element serves to frame the subject within a specific temporal context, moving the work beyond a simple botanical study.
