Edgar Degas
Edgar Degas (1834[8]-1917[8]) was a French[8] artist who studied academic art. Although he did not consider himself an Impressionist, he often showed his paintings and sculptures in the group exhibitions. His themes included modern life, horse-racing scenes, cafes, and ballet, theatre, and circus performers. He focused on showing people and movement, as well as the effect of artificial light indoors. Unlike the Impressionists, he hated plein-air painting.

Biography
Degas drew using line before working with the Impressionists. By working in pastel, he could draw and paint at the same time. He often used unusual viewpoints to frame his subjects. Solis Prints offers fine art prints of his work, including A Cotton Office in New Orleans, Actresses in Their Dressing Rooms, After the Bath (Large Version), Alice Villette, and At the Races: The Start.
