Descrizione
A minimalist assemblage by Pablo Picasso, created in 1942 from a bicycle seat and handlebars to form the shape of a bull's head.
Bull's Head is a work of assemblage created by Pablo Picasso in 1942. The piece consists of a leather bicycle seat and a pair of steel handlebars found by the artist in a pile of scrap metal. By joining these two discarded objects, Picasso created a form that mimics the silhouette of a bull's head. The seat serves as the cranium, while the curved handlebars suggest the horns.
This work is an example of the artist's interest in the transformation of everyday objects through minimal intervention. Picasso often collected discarded items, seeing potential for new meaning in their physical properties. The simplicity of the construction allows the viewer to recognise the original components while simultaneously perceiving the animal form. The shadow cast by the object on the wall further reinforces the illusion, adding a secondary layer to the visual experience.
Picasso's approach here relies on the viewer's capacity for visual association. The work does not attempt to replicate the texture or detail of a bull, but rather captures its essential geometry. By recontextualising industrial waste, the artist invites a reconsideration of the relationship between art and common materials. The piece remains a clear example of how a shift in perspective can alter the identity of an object. It is a study in economy of means, where the artist achieves a recognisable result with only two components. The work is held in the collection of the Musée Picasso in Paris.

Bull's Head - Pablo Picasso
Artist Biography
Pablo Picasso
Picasso's impact transcends Cubism. He flirted with Surrealism, lending his unique vision to the movement's exploration of the subconscious. His art became a mirror reflecting the tumultuous 20th century, from the horrors of war, most powerfully expressed in "Guernica", to the vibrant energy of post-war life. What truly set Picasso apart was his relentless experimentation; he never settled, never repeated, constantly pushing the boundaries of what art could be.
Owning a Picasso print isn't just about acquiring a beautiful image; it's about inviting a piece of art history into your home. It's a conversation starter, a testament to the power of artistic innovation, and a daily reminder to challenge the status quo. From his Cubist portraits to his linocuts, Picasso's genius lies in his ability to make us see the world anew.
