Yesnaby Castle on Orkney’s western coast stands on two rocky feet above restless blue water, with a green cap and pale cliffs surrounding its open arch beneath soft summer cloud.
South of the Brough of Bigging, this sea stack belongs to the exposed coastline of Orkney Mainland. Yesnaby Castle has a natural opening at its base. Coastal paths pass rocky inlets and cliffs, with further stacks continuing south towards North Gaulton.
Gold-grey rock broadens above the stack’s narrow supports, leaving a dark gap just over the waves. A thin layer of grass follows its flat top. On the right, cliffs drop from a green plateau into a shadowed cave and foaming water. The nearest grassy edge is sunlit, while soft summer clouds keep the sea a muted grey-blue.
