Watton in Norfolk appears beyond a quiet grassy stream bank, with a round church tower, pale cottages and leafy trees framing a narrow path in soft summer light.
This town is the centre of the historic Wayland area in Norfolk's Breckland district. Nearby Wayland Wood is a protected woodland managed by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust, with oak, ash, hazel and bird cherry among the trees that characterise its sheltered habitat.
At Watton, a small blue channel winds through reeds to the left of a narrow brown path. An ivy-covered tree rises close on the right, framing pale houses and a church with a rounded tower beyond. White flowers scatter across the shaded grass. Sunlight filters through green leaves under cream clouds, suggesting a gentle afternoon during summer.
