A detailed textile panel featuring a symmetrical floral vase and bird motif, rendered in traditional embroidery on cotton.
This textile piece displays a composition rooted in the traditions of South Asian embroidery. The central field features a vase from which a symmetrical arrangement of flowering stems emerges. Two birds are positioned among the foliage, while a pair of smaller birds rests near the base of the vessel. The entire central motif is enclosed within a pointed arch, a common architectural reference in decorative arts of this period.
The surrounding borders provide a frame for the central scene. These borders contain repeating floral motifs, executed with a focus on symmetry and balance. The colour palette relies on deep tones, with red and dark blue providing a strong contrast to the lighter thread colours used for the stems and bird details. The work demonstrates a high level of technical control in the needlework, with consistent stitch patterns used to define the shapes of the petals, leaves, and avian forms.
Textiles of this nature were often produced for domestic display or as wall hangings. The design reflects a synthesis of naturalistic observation and stylised ornamentation. The birds are rendered with attention to their plumage, yet they conform to the overall decorative logic of the panel. The floral elements, while varied in their depiction, maintain a rhythmic quality that guides the eye across the surface. This piece is an example of the historical craft traditions that prioritised both utility and aesthetic refinement in interior furnishings. The preservation of the original fabric allows for a clear view of the colour relationships and the precision of the needlework, which remain legible despite the passage of time. It serves as a record of the design sensibilities prevalent in the region of its origin.
