This woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige depicts the fiftieth station of the Tokaido road, Tsuchiyama. It belongs to the series known as the Reisho Tokaido, titled for the use of clerical script (reisho) in the cartouches. Hiroshige captures a quiet moment along the route, focusing on the interaction between travellers near a riverbank.

The composition is structured around the horizontal flow of the river, which separates the foreground figures from the dense, forested hills behind. The artist employs a balanced colour palette, using soft greens for the mountains and deep blues for the water. The trees are rendered with repetitive, vertical strokes, creating a rhythmic texture across the hillside. In this iteration of the Tokaido series, Hiroshige moves away from the dramatic weather effects seen in his earlier Hoeido edition.
