This woodblock print by Utagawa Sadahide depicts a naval engagement from the Zen Taiheiki, a historical narrative concerning the conflicts of the fourteenth century. Sadahide, a student of Utagawa Kunisada, produced this work during the mid-nineteenth century, a period when the genre of musha-e, or warrior prints, gained significant popularity among the urban population of Edo.
