Beschreibung
The Bar sits between bright blue water and rust-coloured heath, where a low beach and distant islands give the view a peaceful feel, leaving the view open, calm and easy to remember.
The artwork looks across a shallow bay with sand tracing its inner edge. Low scrub and grasses occupy the foreground, while a wooded headland extends from the left. Across the water, small islands sit beneath broad clouds, their dark outlines set against a lighter horizon.
The Bar is a narrow sandbar on the Isles of Scilly, shaped by the tides between islands. Here the exposed beach and low vegetation suggest the open, changeable shore. The layers of water and island silhouettes help place the scene among the scattered islands, a familiar view for people travelling between the beaches and coves.
