Beschreibung
Stromness is seen across a broad harbour, with a small ferry crossing towards the shore and pale waterfront buildings lining the far side beneath a bright sky.
The waterfront forms a low band beneath rolling green ground, while a taller spired building rises near the right. Cloud banks cross the blue sky, echoed by pale streaks on the water. A grassy slope with white flowers descends from the foreground towards the harbour.
For visitors to Stromness, the scene holds the town and its working water together. The small ferry suggests daily movement across the open harbour, while the shore buildings make a recognisable arrival point from the water. The hillside and flowers in front give scale to the long line of buildings.
