Beschreibung
A shallow blue burn curls through the pale sand at Skaw in Shetland, with low rocky headlands and a small white ship giving the open sea horizon a quiet point of interest.
On northern Unst, Skaw has Britain’s most northerly sandy beach. Its east-facing shore is backed by a meadow with spring and summer wildflowers. Low cliffs and headlands surround the bay, where exposed granite meets older metamorphic rocks along this far northern part of Shetland.
The near water forms a smooth pool beside angular stones on the right, reflecting patches of cream cloud. A broad sand tongue separates it from the turquoise sea. Short waves draw pale lines across the bay, while the distant vessel remains tiny beside the low horizon. Fresh green grass crosses the lower edge beneath the wide blue sky.
