The artist arranges the thorny stems across the horizontal plane, allowing the flowers to occupy the upper left and lower right quadrants. This creates a sense of movement and organic growth, rather than a static arrangement.
The colour palette remains restrained, relying on soft peach tones for the petals and muted green for the foliage. Shunsen employs a calligraphic approach to the stems, using thin, precise lines to suggest the texture of the wood and the sharpness of the thorns.
