Beschreibung
Rochdale in Greater Manchester lights its grand Gothic town hall below a pale moon, with green lawns, tall church towers and layered rooftops reaching towards distant hills under a clear blue sky.
Opened in 1871, the town hall was designed by William Henry Crossland to express the town's prosperity in the textile trade. Its elaborate Victorian Gothic architecture includes a later tower by Alfred Waterhouse, built after the original was lost following a major fire in 1883.
At Rochdale, warm light shines through rows of tall pointed windows beneath steep blue-grey roofs. A slender clock tower rises beside ornate gables and smaller turrets. Broad steps descend between shaped lawns, with a church beyond the trees. The pale moon and illuminated town windows suggest a mild evening at the close of a summer day.
