This specific scene depicts the Hashirii teahouse in Otsu, the final stop before reaching the destination of Kyoto.

Hiroshige presents a busy scene of commerce and rest. Ox-drawn carts laden with goods move along the road, while patrons gather within the open-fronted structure of the teahouse. The composition balances the architectural forms of the thatched-roof buildings with the organic shapes of the pine trees and bamboo thickets. A figure in the foreground washes items in a basin, adding a sense of domestic activity to the roadside setting. The use of colour is restrained, relying on soft blues for the sky and muted earth tones for the structures and ground, which creates a harmonious visual experience.

The print demonstrates the technical skill of the Edo-period woodblock process, where multiple carved blocks were used to build the image layer by layer.
