The series documents the route between Edo and Kyoto, capturing the atmosphere of various post stations. In this depiction of Numazu, Hiroshige presents a scene at dusk under a full moon. The composition features a group of travellers walking along a path beside a river, with the town visible in the distance.

Central to the image is a figure wearing a tengu mask, a mythological creature with a long nose, which adds a layer of folklore to the travel narrative. The use of bokashi, a technique for colour gradation, is evident in the sky, where the deep blue of the night transitions into a lighter tone near the horizon.
