Beschreibung
Marwick Head in Orkney rises in layered grey cliffs above foaming blue water, with a distant stone memorial and green clifftop grass beneath the bright clear sky of summer.
On Orkney's coast, this nature reserve combines high sea cliffs with a large nesting seabird colony. A walking route climbs from the bay to the Kitchener Memorial, while the surrounding grassland provides habitat for the rare Great Yellow Bumblebee.
At Marwick Head, long horizontal rock layers form a steep wall below green turf. White foam spreads around dark outcrops at the cliff foot, opposite a broad expanse of blue sea. A tall square memorial stands on the far crest. Rough grass and grey stones fill the nearest slope, with clean colours suggesting a sunny day during the summer nesting season.
