Huang Shen, a member of the Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou, created this work in 1751. The painting depicts Ma-gu, a legendary Taoist figure associated with longevity and youth. She is shown in a standing posture, holding a ritual vessel, accompanied by a deer, which is a traditional symbol of prosperity and long life in Chinese iconography. The deer carries a basket of flowers on its back, adding a decorative element to the composition.

The artist employs a calligraphic brush technique, characteristic of his mature style. The lines defining the robes of Ma-gu are fluid and expressive, demonstrating the artist's ability to balance spontaneity with structural precision.
