Beschreibung
Loch Ken in Galloway appears between leafy trees and green fields, with blue water reflecting the wooded shore and small white farms below distant hills in gentle summer sunshine.
Extending through the Glenkens in Dumfries and Galloway, this freshwater loch receives the Water of Ken and the Dee. The water continues south as the Dee through Glenlochar, where a barrage regulates flow as part of the Galloway hydro-electric power scheme.
A band of smooth blue water opens across Loch Ken beyond the nearest treetops. Far-bank foliage casts clear reflections below hedged green fields and scattered white buildings. Birch leaves and dark conifers frame the left side, with low blue-green ridges farther away. The full canopy and soft light beneath pale clouds suggest a sheltered viewpoint on a mild summer day.
