Gaultier translates the monumental scale of the original painting into the precise, linear medium of copperplate engraving.

The print organises the celestial and infernal realms into a structured hierarchy. At the centre, Christ appears in judgment, surrounded by a host of saints and figures bearing the instruments of the Passion. Below this central group, the composition descends into the chaotic movement of the resurrected, with figures rising from their graves and others being ferried across the river Styx by Charon. The artist employs a dense arrangement of figures, utilising cross-hatching and fine line work to create volume and shadow across the crowded scene.

At the top of the print, a small medallion portrait of Michelangelo serves as a direct acknowledgement of the source material. Gaultier was known for his technical skill in reproducing complex compositions, and this work demonstrates his ability to manage a high density of figures while maintaining clarity in the narrative.
