This woodblock print is part of the series Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido, published by Hoeido. It depicts the post station of Kameyama in Ise Province. Hiroshige captures the quiet atmosphere of a winter morning as the sun begins to rise over a snow-covered slope. The composition relies on a steep diagonal line, guiding the viewer's eye along the path where travellers and a horse make their way toward the castle gate situated at the summit.

The artist employs a subtle colour palette to convey the chill of the season. The white of the snow contrasts with the deep blue of the sky and the soft pink glow of the dawn horizon. The trees, dusted with snow, provide a vertical counterpoint to the incline of the hill. Hiroshige was known for his ability to render weather conditions with precision, and here the crispness of the air is palpable.
