Beschreibung
Iona / St. Columba recalls the island monastery founded off Mull in Argyll, where early Christian history meets pale stone buildings, green coastal ground and open Hebridean water.
Off the western side of Mull, Iona became one of the British Isles' influential religious centres after Columba and twelve companions arrived from Ireland in 563. Their monastery helped spread Christianity, giving this small Hebridean island a significance far beyond its physical size.
Warm stone walls and a square tower dominate the Iona / St. Columba scene. Slate roofs, pointed windows and a freestanding cross stand against blue water and low offshore land. A circular arrangement of stones spreads across the foreground lawn, with grey rocks at the lower edge. Clear skies, cream clouds and strong green grass suggest summer light around the religious buildings.
