This woodblock print is part of the series One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, produced by Utagawa Hiroshige between 1856 and 1858. The composition focuses on the Kameido Tenjin Shrine, a site celebrated for its wisteria gardens. Hiroshige employs a bold, vertical perspective, placing large clusters of purple wisteria in the immediate foreground. These hanging blossoms frame the arched drum bridge, which spans the water below.

The bridge, known as the Taikobashi or moon bridge, creates a strong geometric curve that contrasts with the organic, drooping forms of the wisteria. Beyond the bridge, visitors are visible along the water's edge, adding a sense of scale and human activity to the scene. The colour palette relies on the contrast between the deep blues of the water and the soft, muted tones of the sky and bridge structure.

Hiroshige uses the technique of bokashi, or colour gradation, to suggest the depth of the water and the transition of light in the sky. The print demonstrates the artist's ability to combine natural elements with architectural features. By framing the view through the wisteria, Hiroshige directs the viewer's eye through the layers of the composition. This work remains a representative example of the late Edo period printmaking tradition, where artists sought to document the changing scenery of the city.
