Shigenaga was a teacher to several notable artists, including Harunobu, and his work often features the bold, graphic lines characteristic of early printmaking in Japan.
The figure is rendered with a focus on linear clarity. The subject wears a kimono decorated with motifs of pine and bamboo, symbols of longevity and resilience. The garment is layered with a plaid-patterned outer robe, demonstrating the artist's attention to textile detail. The figure holds a small vessel containing chrysanthemums, which adds a seasonal element to the composition.
