Beschreibung
Abraham Bosse’s seventeenth-century etching of a musical gathering, from The Five Senses.
Hearing is an etching by Abraham Bosse from The Five Senses (Les Cinq Sens), published by Melchior Tavernier around 1638. A group gathers around a table to make music, with a lute and a bowed string instrument at the centre of the scene.
The decorative frame contains the title Auditus and verses beneath the musicians. This reproduction uses the Metropolitan Museum of Art scan, with the complete border and lettering retained. A blended paper-coloured surround fits the image to an A-series sheet.
