This woodblock print, titled Hara, is the fourteenth station from the Reisho Tokaido series by Utagawa Hiroshige. The series depicts the route between Edo and Kyoto, a subject the artist returned to multiple times throughout his career. This specific iteration, known as the Reisho Tokaido due to the use of clerical script (reisho) in the cartouches, demonstrates the artist's mature approach to composition and atmospheric perspective.

The print features a dominant Mount Fuji, which occupies the upper portion of the frame. Its peak is rendered with minimal line work, allowing the white of the paper to represent snow. Below the mountain, a range of foothills stretches across the middle ground, coloured in muted greens and blues. The foreground shows a flat, open area with small structures and figures, providing a sense of scale to the massive mountain behind. The use of a horizontal format emphasises the vastness of the terrain.

Hiroshige employs a clear division of space, separating the foreground, middle ground, and background. The sky transitions from a deep blue at the top to a lighter tone near the horizon, a technique common in his work to suggest depth. The print is a fine example of the technical precision achieved by the carvers and printers who collaborated with Hiroshige. The lines are clean, and the colour application is controlled, reflecting the aesthetic standards of the mid-nineteenth century in Japan.
