Bartolomeo Cavarozzi, a follower of Caravaggio, produced this composition during the early seventeenth century. The work displays the characteristic tenebrism of the period, where objects emerge from a dark, atmospheric background. The arrangement focuses on the textures of nature, specifically the translucent skins of grapes, the fuzzy surface of peaches, and the delicate plumage of the wagtails positioned at the base of the frame.

Unlike the more clinical still lifes of the Northern tradition, this piece emphasises the organic chaos of a vine.
