The work displays a dense accumulation of marks, combining oil paint, pencil, and crayon to create a layered surface.

Twombly employs a gestural approach, where the physical act of mark-making is visible across the composition. The palette is dominated by earthy tones, including ochre, terracotta, and deep browns, which are applied with varying degrees of pressure. Some areas feature thick, impasto-like strokes, while others contain delicate, scribbled lines that resemble handwriting or calligraphic notations.
