Beschreibung
Elstow in Bedfordshire sets a timber-framed hall beside its old abbey church, with golden lawns, tall trees and long shadows beneath the peach and purple clouds of a quiet summer evening.
South of Bedford, this village is associated with the writer John Bunyan and the medieval abbey that shaped its early development. The timber-framed Moot Hall served the abbey's market and later became a meeting place, preserving a notable part of the village's historic green.
At Elstow, dark diagonal beams divide the warm brick panels of the long hall. Behind it, a pale church with tall arched windows stands beside a separate square tower. Short timber rails follow the hall frontage, beyond a broad lawn. Gold light touches the grass under rose-purple clouds, suggesting an evening towards the close of summer.
