Beschreibung
Dunbeath in Highland Caithness brings a river mouth and sheltered harbour into view, with pale waterfront houses and bright green cliffs set above the blue sea on a clear summer day.
Dunbeath stands on the east coast of Caithness where its river reaches the sea. The harbour grew during the herring fishing boom, and the surrounding strath contains hazel woods and archaeological sites. The village is also the birthplace of novelist Neil M Gunn, whose writing drew on this coastal world.
From a grassy hillside dotted with white flowers, the view follows a blue river channel towards long stone harbour walls. Pale houses line the left bank below a steep green slope, while a dark roofed cottage stands on the open ground opposite. The harbour water is almost still. Beyond the breakwater, low sea cliffs meet a wide blue horizon beneath scattered cream clouds.
