Beschreibung
Crook in County Durham appears beyond a sunlit green slope, its church tower and red roofs backed by broad fields under pale clouds on a summer afternoon.
Crook developed from an agricultural settlement into a market town in County Durham. Coal discoveries brought rapid expansion during the nineteenth century, followed by a period of textile manufacturing. Its central conservation area preserves buildings associated with these changes in the town’s working life.
Tree shadows spread across the open grass at the front, stopping short of a fence running towards the town. A square pinnacled church tower rises on the left above layers of red roofs and leafy crowns. Further away, green fields lift into low hills, with warm white clouds drifting through a clear blue sky.
