Coniston Old Man in Cumbria rises beyond a wooded blue lakeshore, with pale cottages and tall pine trunks under warm cream clouds in the soft light of an early autumn afternoon.
This Furness fell stands west of Coniston village and its lake in the southern Lake District. Paths climb through a landscape shaped by centuries of copper mining and slate quarrying. Abandoned workings remain on the northeastern slopes, while the summit carries a slate platform and cairn.
Coniston Old Man rises in gold and grey slopes beyond a dense wooded shore. Tall pine trunks and broad leafy crowns partly conceal small white cottages beside the blue lake. Gentle ripples break their reflections across the near water. A small upright mark appears on the summit, while warm cream clouds and turning upland colours suggest an early autumn afternoon.
