This work by Feiyin Tongrong, a prominent Chan Buddhist monk of the Ming and early Qing dynasties, displays the characteristic energy of Zen calligraphy. The characters are rendered in a fluid, cursive script that prioritises the rhythm of the brush stroke over rigid formal structure. Each mark reflects the physical movement of the artist, capturing a moment of meditative focus through ink on paper.
Feiyin Tongrong was a significant figure within the Linji school of Chan Buddhism.
