Beschreibung
Callanish on Lewis sets a single weathered standing stone against blue coastal water, with gold-green grass, distant white houses and rolling island hills under high sunlit cloud in late summer.
On the western coast of Lewis, this Neolithic ceremonial site occupies a low rise above surrounding water and moorland. Its stone circle and radiating avenues were erected between 2900 and 2600 BC, with a chambered burial cairn added shortly afterwards.
At Callanish, one tall pale stone fills the right side, its cracked face catching warm gold light. Short grass spreads around its base in long green and ochre bands. Two blue reaches of water divide the lower ground beyond, below scattered white houses and layered hills. Soft cream cloud and sunlit turf suggest an island afternoon during late summer.
