Beschreibung
Bunyan's Oak lifts a crown of broken bare limbs above golden grass, its deeply hollowed trunk and knotted bark standing against a low green hedgerow beneath scattered clouds and blue sky.
Bunyan's Oak stands near Harlington in Bedfordshire, and the tree itself is the clear subject of this view. Its bare, irregular outline remains visible against the open sky, giving every broken branch room to be seen. Long shadows cross the grass below, repeating the contrast between lit bark and the darker recesses of the veteran trunk.
Sunlight turns the outer ridges of the bark a warm ochre, leaving the deep central hollow almost black. Thick limbs end in blunt, weathered surfaces, with a few thinner branches reaching sideways. Behind the trunk, small trees and brambles form a low screen above the yellow field.
