Frans Jansz. Post was a Dutch painter who travelled to Brazil in 1637 as part of the entourage of Johan Maurits van Nassau-Siegen. During his time in the Dutch colony, he produced a series of works documenting the geography, flora, and colonial settlements of the region. This painting, Braziliaans dorp, reflects his characteristic approach to the genre, combining precise observation with the conventions of seventeenth-century European painting.

The composition is structured around a foreground clearing, where figures are depicted in daily activities near a colonial-style structure.
