Beschreibung
Bodiam Castle in East Sussex rises from a broad moat, its fourteenth-century towers and water reflections giving the medieval stronghold a clear outline within the surrounding trees.
Built around 1385 for Sir Edward Dallingridge and Elizabeth Wardedieu, Bodiam Castle is a moated stronghold in East Sussex. Its quadrangular plan and substantial towers remain enclosed by water, preserving the outward form of a late-medieval residence designed to project status as well as strength.
Pale round towers and crenellated walls stand above blue-grey reflections. Deep shadows gather beneath the gatehouse battlements, while narrow windows puncture the sunlit stone. Green trees frame both banks and pink flowers edge the near water. The moat is almost still under cream and lilac clouds, lending the castle a gentle summer atmosphere despite the weight of its masonry.
