Beschreibung
Bloodstone Hill on Highland Rùm rises straight from blue sea, its sunlit green flanks and dark crags making a bold island profile under long banks of white summer cloud.
On the western side of Rùm, Bloodstone Hill is known for the mineral found in its volcanic rocks. Bloodstone is a green form of silica flecked with red. Material from the hill was carried to prehistoric sites, and the deposits were worked again for jewellery in the nineteenth century.
The scene faces a steep grassy mass across calm turquoise water. Dark cliff bands interrupt its vivid slopes, with a rounded crown and a rugged spur descending on the right. Reflected light spreads across the sea in broad pale patches. Long cream clouds pass above the crest, and the lush grass gives the whole island face a distinctly summer brightness.
