Blaenavon sits among rounded hills in this far-reaching view, its close-packed rooftops giving the valley a quiet sense of habitation beneath a wide sky.
The eye crosses a dark wooded band and reaches rows of pale houses gathered across the valley floor. Beyond them, long green slopes rise to a blue-grey ridge, while nearer fields roll diagonally across the lower half of the scene. Cream clouds gather in loose bands above, leaving a clear patch of blue overhead.
Blaenavon’s setting among the South Wales hills is part of what makes the town memorable to visitors and residents. Here, the settlement appears joined to its surrounding farmland, with the rooftops set between wooded slopes and open fields that lead towards the distant ridge.
