Beschreibung
Beeston in Cheshire overlooks green fields from broken castle walls on a rocky crag, with purple near heather beneath orange cloud banks as the low sun sets on a late summer evening.
The castle above this Cheshire village was built for Ranulf, Earl of Chester, during the 1220s. Its hilltop defences incorporated an earlier Iron Age enclosure. Royal ownership followed in 1237, while a Civil War siege ended with the surrender and partial demolition of the stronghold.
Beeston has broken pale stone walls standing directly above a steep rocky outcrop. Green fields spread between dark hedgerows across the plain, with small farm buildings below the crag. Purple heather and angular boulders fill the near slope. A low round sun and orange cloud banks suggest an evening late in summer over the long distant ridges.
