Beschreibung
Beeston Castle in Cheshire crowns a steep wooded crag, its broken sandstone walls rising above golden fields and trees just beginning to turn in clear autumn light.
Beeston Castle stands on a sandstone crag above the Cheshire Plain. Ranulf, Earl of Chester, began its construction during the 1220s where an Iron Age community had already built a hillfort. The fortress was later contested during the Civil War and partially demolished afterwards.
Round gate towers and broken curtain walls occupy the top of a steep green hill. Exposed rock interrupts the woodland beneath them, while orange and gold leaves begin to appear among darker tree crowns. In front, a broad crop field catches warm light, its boundary hedges leading across the lower edge below a pale-clouded autumn sky.
