Beschreibung
BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art faces the Tyne with tall brick piers and a central glass bay, its broad entrance canopy reaching out across the paved square.
Gateshead Quays is home to a former flour mill converted into galleries beside the Tyne. The centre opened in July 2002, following a redevelopment that retained the north and south facades while adding new floors within.
At BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, warm ochre brick frames a tall grid of blue glass. A shallow silver roof projects over the entrance below, with small empty tables set across the terrace. Vertical windows repeat along the tower, while pale apartment blocks rise to the right. The river occupies a narrow strip on the left beneath a sky of lavender shadows and cream clouds.
