Roberto Matta, a Chilean artist associated with the Surrealist movement, developed a unique visual language that sought to map the internal workings of the human psyche. Atlas de Medication reflects his preoccupation with psychological space, often described as 'inscapes'. In this work, the viewer encounters a complex network of organic forms, tubular structures, and floating geometric shapes that suggest biological or mechanical processes. The composition avoids traditional perspective, opting instead for a layered, fluid arrangement that mimics the chaotic nature of thought and memory.

Matta utilised a combination of fluid washes and precise, calligraphic lines to define these shifting forms. The colour palette is dominated by acidic greens, muted earth tones, and sharp accents of red, which serve to guide the eye through the dense visual field.
