Beschreibung
Ardvreck Castle in Assynt, Highland, stands as a broken pale tower above blue water, its reflection and the snowy mountains beyond giving the small lochside ruin a dramatic setting.
The ruined stronghold occupies a rocky promontory in Loch Assynt, Sutherland. Built by the MacLeods of Assynt during the later fifteenth century, it gained further domestic and defensive features about a century afterwards, preserving evidence of successive changes to the clan residence.
Ardvreck Castle rises from a low grassy tongue of land, its tall broken wall lit warmly against distant white summits. Small dark openings punctuate the masonry, with a detached fragment near the shore. Calm blue water reflects the tower beneath ochre hills. Grey boulders and rusty shrubs occupy the near bank. Lingering snow and bright lower grass suggest a clear spring day beside the loch.
