This lithograph originates from the celebrated series 'Les Maîtres de l'affiche', a collection published between 1895 and 1900 that reproduced the finest examples of contemporary poster art. Maximilien Luce, primarily known for his Neo-Impressionist paintings and pointillist technique, demonstrates a different facet of his skill here. The work advertises a performance by the entertainer Mévisto at the Scala, a popular Parisian music hall of the period.
The composition features a central figure in a dark, voluminous cloak, rendered with expressive, heavy lines that suggest movement and theatricality.
